BarCamp Indianapolis

Next Event: February 9th, 2008

As most of you all know, I am an interactive designer at my full-time job. I'd like to discuss some aspects of web design at the BarCamp. I know that there will be different levels of interest and skill this Saturday. I mainly want to be helpful to the audience where ever they are on the curve.

I know there is a fair amount of geeks that have the idea that a header graphic is graphical branding. Anyone interested in a discussion of graphics with some discussion of CSS/HTML. Slicing in Illustrator, background vs inline graphics, consistency, minimalism vs. a million sidebar widgets? Graphic design vs. prefabricated theme?

I can cover SEO tips from a production standpoint, but it seems that everyone blogs about those. People differ on techniques though. Using floats and absolute positing to re-order content?

Focus on CSS? Getting your mind around CSS and hacking for IE 6 is a massive undertaking (took/taking me years to do this). Accessibility/ semantic HTML, list navigation? Anyone?

Using web development tools: Firebug, Web Developer, Link Checker, Measure It, ColorZilla, Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar, etc?

I know that a few others code for living and could also participate.

Ditto! I haven't spent much time following the developments in CSS and webdev tools, so this sounds great!

I am totally lost on the actual programming part of web design. I am a graphic designer with tons of ideas... give me the basic tools to apply to our expanding New Media world and the sky's the limit : )
Likewise, I will be interested in WHATEVER you feel compelled to share. I look forward to the event and meeting you in person. Blessings and happy prepping.

We'll be interested in whatever you're passionate about, Stephen.
